Duckworth Meets with Illinois Broadcasters Association

[WASHINGTON, D.C.] — U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) this week met with several members of the Illinois Broadcasters Association to discuss their shared legislative priorities as well as Duckworth’s work to support public broadcasting and local, rural media outlets.

“Broadcasters play an invaluable role in ensuring Illinoisans are informed and maybe most importantly—engaged—in their communities,” Duckworth said. “I was glad to meet with members of the Illinois Broadcasters Association to discuss how together, we can work to strengthen their industry.”

Duckworth has worked to support Illinois’s media entities. In the Fiscal Year 2023 (FY23) omnibus which Duckworth voted for and President Biden signed into law, $10 million in additional funding was allocated for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting’s (CPB) operations budget. In 2020, Duckworth called for then-Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Acting Director Russell Vought to support radio and television broadcasters and local newspapers during the COVID-19 pandemic, and in 2021, she voted for the American Rescue Plan, which provided stabilization funding so that local public media entities responding to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic had the resources to provide essential educational, informational and public safety services to communities.???
