Duckworth Advocates for Veteran Small Business Owners for Access to Federal Surplus Equipment
U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) passed a bill earlier this year to help Veteran small business owners start and grow their businesses by giving them access to surplus federal assets and equipment was signed into law. At a Small Business & Entrepreneurship hearing today, Duckworth asked Small Business Administration Administrator Linda McMahon for a timeline of when they’ll finally be able to take advantage of this new law. As a member of the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship, which passed the Veterans Small Business Enhancement Act last year, Senator Duckworth has advocated for the more than 2.5 million Veteran-owned small business across the country, including the approximately 80,700 in Illinois. As more Iraq and Afghanistan-era Veterans transition out of the military and begin their next career, this number will only increase.
