While Touring the University of Illinois RailTEC Program, Duckworth Underscores the Importance of Infrastructure Investments
[CHAMPAIGN, IL] – Today, U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) toured the University of Illinois RailTEC Program, which conducts research and trains some of our nation’s next generation of leaders in railroad engineering. During the visit, Duckworth also discussed her efforts to support transportation infrastructure projects and create jobs across Illinois. A photo of the tour can be found here.
“Improving our state’s infrastructure is really just common sense, and it’s one of my top priorities in the Senate,” Duckworth said. “RailTEC’s work to upgrade our rails systems is critical to our economy and supporting working families here in Illinois and families across the region.”
In October, Duckworth joined Senator Tom Carper (D-DE) and the Democratic members of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee (EPW), in asking the Trump Administration to announce its long-awaited infrastructure investment plan. However, the Trump administration has yet to announce any infrastructure proposals that would fulfill the President’s frequent campaign promise.
As a member of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation, Duckworth is tasked with overseeing issues related to the nation’s transportation systems and infrastructure projects and works to ensure Illinois receives adequate funding from the federal government to rebuild and modernize state infrastructure and transportation systems.
