Duckworth Touts Support for Workforce Development with Joliet Region Chamber of Commerce

[WASHINGTON, D.C.] – Today, U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) met with Joliet Region Chamber of Commerce and Industry members, including President Jen Howard, Executive Vice President Mike Paone, as well as City of Joliet Mayor Terry D’Arcy and local business leaders to underscore her commitment to helping create good-paying local jobs and support entrepreneurs. The Joliet Region Chamber of Commerce works to support businesses and professional development throughout the southwest Chicagoland region.

“Our state and our nation are stronger when communities and families prosper—and all levels of leadership working together brings us all closer to that reality,” said Duckworth. “I’ll keep advocating for workforce development and to support our state’s entrepreneurs so that hardworking Illinoisans have a clearer path to a better life for themselves and their loved ones.”

Duckworth, President Howard, Vice President Paone, Mayor D’Arcy and the group also discussed the Secure and Fair Enforcement (SAFE) Banking Act of 2023—bipartisan legislation that would ensure that cannabis businesses that operate legally under state laws would have access to critical banking and financial services. Duckworth is a cosponsor of the bill and is pushing for legal cannabis businesses to have access to banking in order to help ensure safety in Illinois’s communities, as well as equity in cannabis licensing.
