Duckworth Statement on Dangerous & Misguided Trump Executive Orders

WASHINGTON, DC - U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) released the following statement regarding the executive orders signed by the President today that would cut federal funding from Illinois and divert U.S. tax dollars to build a wall on the Southern border:

"President Trump's actions today are dangerous, misguided and will compromise public safety in communities across Illinois by fostering mistrust and suspicion between local law enforcement and the communities they serve and protect. We should strive to remember that America is at its best when we welcome immigrants who work hard every day to build a better life for themselves and their families-but today's executive orders take us down a much darker path.

"Today, I join the people of Cicero, of Evanston, of Urbana, of Chicago and of cities across the nation who know that our local communities are safest when law enforcement officials can focus on keeping us safe instead of being forced to tear families apart. I will continue standing up against these sorts of divisive actions in favor of the inclusive America I know we can be."
