Duckworth Statement on Bipartisan Framework to Help Curb Gun Violence, Save Lives
[WASHINGTON, DC] – U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) today issued the following statement after a group of bipartisan Senators unveiled a new framework to help curb our nation’s gun violence epidemic:
“This bipartisan framework represents a path forward to help reduce senseless gun violence in America and, ultimately, save lives. For Illinois, this framework would also help us crack down on two major problems that drive gun violence in our state: interstate firearms trafficking and irresponsible federally-licensed firearms dealers that repeatedly violate the rules, putting profits before safety. These provisions, while important progress, are not everything we need to finally end our nation’s epidemic of gun violence and I will do everything I can to push for the additional substantive reforms that a widespread majority of Americans are asking for in the weeks and months ahead.”
Duckworth is a champion for commonsense gun safety reforms. Duckworth helped introduce several bills that would help prevent gun violence and save lives, including legislation to expand background checks, ban assault weapons, ban high-capacity magazines, close loopholes that allow domestic abusers to legally obtain weapons, prohibit unlicensed firearm ownership and the transfer of firearms without a valid firearms license and more.
