Duckworth Joins U.S. Coast Guard for Security Preview Ahead of 2024 Democratic National Convention
[CHICAGO, IL] – Combat Veteran and U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) this weekend joined U.S. Coast Guard Rotary Wing Air Intercept (RWAI) helicopter crews from the Detroit Coast Guard Air Station and Sector Lake Michigan Commander Captain Seth Parker to observe airspace security efforts ahead of the 2024 Democratic National Convention this week in Chicago. Photos from today’s tour are available on the Senator’s website.
“I was pleased to receive an in-depth look by our Coast Guard into the security precautions they’ve put in place to keep folks safe ahead of the Democratic National Convention,” Duckworth said. “Every day, the Coast Guard works tirelessly to maintain the safety and security of our city’s waterways, specifically the busy Chicago River and Lake Michigan. I will continue working with the Coast Guard to secure the necessary resources they need to keep people safe during this year’s convention and for years to come.”
The U.S. Coast Guard is vital to the safety and security of the boating public on the Chicago River and on Lake Michigan during the heightened summer boating season. Today, Duckworth joined highly trained Rotary Wing Air Intercept pilots in an USCG MH-65 helicopter to tour the various airspace restrictions over the 2024 National Democratic Convention site.
