Duckworth, Durbin, Bustos Announce Over $11 Million for Chicago Rockford International Airport

[WASHINGTON, D.C.] – U.S. Senators Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) and Dick Durbin (D-IL) and Congresswoman Cheri Bustos (D-IL-17) today announced $11,296,026 in U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) grant funding to help improve the Chicago Rockford International Airport in Rockford. The funding will help Chicago Rockford International Airport rehabilitate runways and taxiways.

“Investing in our airport infrastructure is vital to the strength of our state’s transportation systems and our local economies,” Senator Duckworth said. “This funding will help ensure Chicago Rockford International Airport has the necessary resources to make much-needed improvements and support local job growth. Along with Senator Durbin and Congresswoman Bustos, I will continue to advocate for funding that results in safer, more reliable airports and spurs economic development across the region.”

“Airports and reliable air service are crucial to the economic success of Illinois communities large and small,” Senator Durbin said. “Thanks to continued federal investment, the ongoing improvements at Chicago Rockford International Airport will create jobs and ensure we can keep up with increased air cargo demands. I look forward to continuing to work with Senator Duckworth and Congresswoman Bustos to bring these investments to Rockford.”

“The Chicago Rockford International Airport is doing great work to grow and expand their operations,” Congresswoman Bustos said. “They are an economic hub for our region of Illinois and create good-paying jobs in our community. Investments like this help them continue this progress and I thank Senators Durbin and Duckworth for their partnership in securing these federal dollars.”
