Duckworth, Durbin Announce Over $900,000 for Rural Development in Central Illinois

[WASHINGTON, DC] - U.S. Senators Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) and Dick Durbin (D-IL) today announced $901,000 in federal funding to support rural community development projects in Shelby, Menard, Edgar and Macoupin Counties. The funding will help modernize electrical grids and water distribution systems.

"Grants like these will help ensure our rural communities across Central Illinois have the resources they need to repair water systems, improve electrical grids and support local families," Duckworth said. "By making much-needed improvements to our water and electrical infrastructure, we can grow local economies and boost our entire state's economy. I'll continue working with Senator Durbin to secure more investments in rural development across the state."

"This federal funding will help boost communities in Shelby, Menard, Edgar, and Macoupin Counties, serving to replace water lines, improve water distribution systems, and enhance electrical grids," said Durbin. "I will continue working with Senator Duckworth to ensure that our state's rural communities have access to the critical federal investments that drive economic growth."

The federal funding is provided through two U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) programs, the Water and Waste Disposal Loans and Grants program and the Rural Economic Development Loans and Grants program.

The following villages and townships will receive funding under the USDA's Water and Waste Disposal and Loans and Grants program:

Village of Herrick (Shelby County, IL): $540,000

Township of New Salem (Menard County, IL): $255,000

Village of Metcalf (Edgar County, IL): $70,000

The following cooperative will receive funding under the USDA's Rural Economic Development Loans and Grants program:

MJM Electronic Cooperative, INC (Macoupin County, IL): $36,000
