Duckworth, Durbin Announce Over $200,000 to Rehabilitate Homes in Western Illinois

 

[WASHINGTON, D.C.] — U.S. Senators Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) and Dick Durbin (D-IL) announced today $202,576 in federal funding today to the Western Illinois Regional Council Community Action Agency to help low income homeowners across the region repair and rehabilitate their homes. The grant comes from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Housing Preservation Program, which is within the Office of Rural Development.

“These federal funds will help 30 low-income individuals and families across Western Illinois make their homes safer, more energy efficient and more accessible,” Duckworth said. “I will continue to work with Senator Durbin to make sure that hardworking Illinoisans throughout the state receive the federal investments they deserve.”

“This federal funding will help rehabilitate 30 homes in Western Illinois, improving quality of life for low-income individuals and families while helping reinvigorate neighborhoods,” Durbin said. “Senator Duckworth and I will continue working to ensure that our rural communities have access to these critical federal investments that drive growth.”

The Housing Preservation Grant Program provides funds to repair homes for low and very-low income households. Under this grant, the Western Illinois Regional Council Community Action Agency will rehabilitate 30 homes for very-low income homeowners in Hancock, Henderson, McDonough, Warren and Fulton counties.

USDA Rural Development invests in infrastructure projects across the country through loans and grants to unserved and underserved rural communities. These resources provide much-needed infrastructure improvements that help business development, homeownership, community services, public safety and healthcare and high-speed internet access.
