Duckworth, Durbin Announce Nearly $700,000 For Housing Programs In Illinois

[WASHINGTON, D.C.] – U.S. Senators Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) and Dick Durbin (D-IL) today announced that three housing authorities across Illinois will receive a total of $696,023 in federal funding to support public housing needs in the community. This funding comes through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) Emergency Safety and Security Grant (ESSG) program.

“Children and families in need across Illinois rely on investments like these that help improve housing conditions and reduce homelessness,” Duckworth said. “Along with Senator Durbin, I’m proud to advocate for federal funding to support programs that foster safe communities and help ensure all Illinoisans have access to the affordable housing they need to get ahead.”

“This federal investment will give local housing agencies in Cairo, Danville, and Belleville the ability to improve public housing and provide safety and security measures,” said Durbin. “I will continue fighting with Senator Duckworth for federal funding that can create safer public housing communities for Illinois families.”

The following housing authorities have been awarded funding:

  • Alexander County Housing Authority (Cairo): $250,000
  • Danville Housing Authority (Danville): $250,000
  • St. Clair County Housing Authority (Belleville): $196,023
