Duckworth, Durbin Announce Nearly $6 Million in Grants for Chicago Public Schools

 

[CHICAGO, IL] – U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) and U.S. Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL) today announced that Chicago Public Schools received $5,893,904 in Magnet Schools Assistance Program (MSAP) grants to support school curriculum and promote equity efforts. The MSAP grant money, awarded by the U.S Department of Education, will assist Chicago magnet schools in implementing innovative instructional approaches that will support students from a wide-range of social, economic, ethnic and racial backgrounds.

“To better train and equip the next generation of leaders, it’s crucial that schools have the resources and tools necessary to give every kid the best education possible,” said Duckworth. “With this federal support, we can help ensure that these Chicago Public Schools have what they need to help kids succeed both inside and outside of the classroom.”

“Providing a strong, well-rounded education is one of the greatest gifts we can give the next generation. Today’s announced funding will help schools and educators meet children where they’re at and offer them new tools and approaches to the curriculum that will help them succeed,” said Durbin. “I take my role as an advocate for students seriously, and I will continue to work alongside the Department of Education to bring federal funding home to Illinois.”
