Duckworth, Durbin Announce $65 Million for Chicago O’Hare Airport Improvements
[WASHINGTON, D.C.] – U.S. Senators Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) and Dick Durbin (D-IL) today announced $65,000,000 in federal funding for runway construction at Chicago O’Hare International Airport. This funding was allocated though the U.S. Department of Transportation and the Federal Aviation Administration’s Airport Improvement Program (AIP).
“This substantial investment in Chicago O’Hare International Airport will go a long way toward enhancing safety and operations at our state’s world-class transportation hub,” Duckworth said. “In addition to runway construction, this funding will also help ensure O’Hare has additional resources to make improvements, support local job growth and improve travelers’ experiences. Along with Senator Durbin, I will continue to advocate for funding that results in safer, more reliable airport facilities at O’Hare and around our state while spurring economic development and job creation.”
"O’Hare serves as the gateway for many travelers to not only Chicago, but all across Illinois and the United States. It is an economic engine for the region and the State, carrying passengers, cargo, and providing thousands of jobs," Durbin said. "This federal funding, along with the rest of the O’Hare Modernization Program, will lead to a more efficient experience for passengers and airport operations. Senator Duckworth and I will continue working to bring federal resources to Chicago’s airports."
This funding to O’Hare is a part of the O’Hare Modernization Program (OMP), a multi-year federal investment to improve O’Hare’s airfield.
