Duckworth, Durbin Announce $25 Million Rail Safety Grant for Kane County
[WASHINGTON, D.C.] – U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) and U.S. Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL) today announced $25,000,000 for Kane County through the U.S. Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Nationally Significant Multimodal Freight & Highway Projects program, otherwise known as the Infrastructure for Rebuilding America (INFRA) program, to construct a grade separation of Randall Road over the Canadian National Railroad and reconstruct an existing intersection at Hopps Road adjacent to the grade separation.
“Improvements to grade separations help decrease noise, reduce emergency response time and improve commuter rail operations, safety and the environment of our communities,” said Duckworth. “I’m proud to see the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law continuing to help our communities all across Illinois, and I’m committed to helping ensure Illinois has the support it needs to continue making these necessary infrastructure improvements.”
“Safer rail infrastructure means safer roads and reduced traffic congestion,” said Durbin. “This substantial investment will not only enhance the efficiency of our transportation networks, but will also play a crucial role in elevating the quality of life for every resident in Kane County.”
The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which Duckworth and Durbin both supported, increased funding for the INFRA program by more than 50 percent to help meet high demand for federal funding to support projects across the country. Over the next five years, the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law will provide approximately $8 billion for the INFRA program.
