Duckworth, Durbin Announce $2 Million for Illinois Institute of Technology University Transportation Systems

 

[CHICAGO, IL] – U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) and U.S. Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL) today announced the Illinois Institute of Technology’s Center for Assured and Resilient Navigation in Advanced Transportation Systems will receive $2 million from the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT). Today’s announcement comes through DOT’s University Transportation Centers (UTC) Program, which supports colleges and universities’ research efforts to advance safe, efficient, and climate-friendly transportation for future generations.

 “Whether it’s making it easier to travel across our great state, get to work or more efficiently transport goods from one coast to another, I’m sure that the bright minds at the Illinois Institute of Technology will be working on transportation breakthroughs that’ll positively impact working families across America,” said Duckworth. “I’m proud to join Senator Durbin in announcing this federal investment that prioritizes the advanced transportation of tomorrow and supports the next generation of transportation experts.”

“Illinois institutions play a large part in discovering ways to upgrade our nation’s infrastructure,” said Durbin. “Investing in Illinois Institute of Technology means new discoveries, more jobs, and improved safety and efficiency in the future. Senator Duckworth and I will continue advocating for federal support that will bring our transportation up to date with the 21st century.”

The Illinois Institute of Technology will be working with Chicago State University, Stanford University, University of California Riverside, and Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University on projects through the Center for Assured and Resilient Navigation in Advanced Transportation Systems.
