Duckworth, Durbin Announce $14 Million in Grant Funding for Head Start Projects

[WASHINGTON, D.C.] – U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) and U.S. Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL) today announced that Illinois Head Start programs will receive $14,026,810 in U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) grant funding.  The federal funding will support Head Start’s mission to offer services for children under the age of five in receiving wrap-around support in early learning and development.

“Head Start and Early Head Start programs are crucial for kids throughout Illinois to have the tools they need to succeed both inside and outside of the classroom,” Duckworth said.  “The federal support for these programs across Illinois won’t just support these children now but helps set them up for a strong future as well.  I’m proud to work with Senator Durbin to continue supporting our early childhood education and parental support programs to help children reach their full potential.”

“Providing a strong education is one of the greatest gifts we can give the next generation.  This Head Start funding will support programs across the state meet children where they’re at and provide them with the skills to be successful when they enter kindergarten,” said Durbin.  “I take my role as an advocate for children seriously, and I will continue to work alongside the Department of Health and Human Services to bring federal funding home to Illinois.”

• Champaign County: $3,215,877
• Children’s Home & Aid Society of Illinois: $7,475,847
• Champaign County (Early Head Start – Child Care Partnerships): $1,101,959
• Carole Robertson Center for Learning: $2,233,127
