Duckworth Condemns Republicans’ Anti-Choice, Anti-Woman Crusade on Second Anniversary of Disastrous Dobbs Decision

[WASHINGTON, D.C] – On the second anniversary of the Supreme Court’s disastrous Dobbs decision that overturned Roe v. Wade, U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) issued the following statement condemning Republicans’ relentless anti-choice, anti-woman crusade to rip away access to reproductive freedoms—including abortion, contraception and even IVF treatments that help people grow their families—that millions of Americans have relied on for nearly half a century:

“Two years ago, far-right justices on the Supreme Court threw out half a century of precedent and ripped a constitutional right away from millions of Americans in their disastrous Dobbs decision overturning Roe v. Wade. Since then, our nation has seen extreme MAGA Republicans across the country work to roll back health care and tear reproductive freedoms away from Americans—cruelly putting at risk access to abortion, contraception and even the IVF treatments that millions of families, my own included, rely on to start and grow their families.

“Anyone who is paying attention knows that this scary post-Roe reality is a direct result of Donald Trump’s unfortunately successful crusade to end Roe—something he brags about being responsible for on the campaign trail. And we know his ultra right-wing allies want to go even farther, banning abortion nationwide, if given the chance.

“The freedom to decide if, when and how to become a parent should belong to that individual, not Donald Trump or any other Republican politician. And despite the GOP’s efforts to block urgently-needed legislation like our Right to Contraception Act and my Right to IVF Act, I will never stop working with my Democratic colleagues to fully protect the reproductive freedom every American deserves, no matter their zip code.”
