Duckworth Applauds Normal Mayor Chris Koos’s Nomination to Serve on Amtrak Board of Directors Advancing
[WASHINGTON, D.C.] – Today, U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-IL), member of the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation (CST) and its subcommittee on Surface Transportation, Maritime, Freight and Ports, as well as the author of the All Stations Accessibility Program (ASAP) Act, issued the following statement after the full committee voted to advance Normal Mayor Chris Koos’s nomination to serve on Amtrak’s Board of Directors. His nomination now heads to the Senate floor for final consideration.
“I was glad to vote to advance Mayor Koos’s nomination to join the Amtrak Board of Directors because I know having an Illinoisan who understands the importance of supporting both rural and urban infrastructure is a benefit for intercity passenger rail,” said Duckworth. “Mayor Koos has long advocated for common sense transportation policies, and his views and experience as an Illinois municipal leader will be a welcome addition to this Board. I hope the full Senate confirms him soon.”
As a consistent advocate for federal transportation infrastructure investments, Duckworth was able to secure a modified version of her All Stations Accessibility Program (ASAP Act) in the historic Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which will help make public transit stations across the country accessible to all Americans and provide Americans living with disabilities greater independence and access to employment. As part of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, Duckworth also helped establish a permanent disability advocate seat on the Amtrak Board of Directors for an individual with a disability who has a demonstrated history or experience with accessibility, mobility and inclusive transportation in passenger rail or commuter rail.
