PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — A critical resource for the Illinois National Guard 182nd Airlift Wing in Peoria is here to stay.

For fiscal year 2022, a minimum of 292 C-130 aircrafts nationwide has been established.

The provision in the National Defense Authorization Act was secured by Illinois U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth.

While highlighting the aircrafts at the 182nd Airlift Wing on Tuesday, she says they have been used to help fight COVID-19, transport troops to the Capitol following the January 6th insurrection, among a number of other uses.

“Establishing this minimum of 292 aircrafts would ensure the 182nd’s mission for years to come, and it also means our National Guard units across the country, especially the one right here in Peoria have the ability to respond to new emergencies and domestic missions,” Duckworth said.

Governor J.B. Pritzker says the presence of C-130 aircrafts will also help preserve jobs.

U.S. Rep. Cheri Bustos (D-IL), Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL), and Peoria Mayor Dr. Rita Ali were also in attendance on Tuesday.
